Ten Million Scalps
Asking What Comes After Shampoo
Brewer's Yeast Functional Hair Ampoule — a scalp-dedicated solution built on a Triple Synergy
LUK Corp. Product Spotlight
As we covered in our hair health report, hair loss is not a replacement market — it's a STACKING market. The more treatment options multiply, the clearer the role of care used alongside them. Today's spotlight is a product built precisely for that seat: after shampoo, next to treatment — a scalp-dedicated ampoule.
Ten Million People, One Complaint: "Shampoo Isn't Enough"
1 in 5
Korean adults concerned with hair loss — roughly 10 million people
From 20s to 60s
A concern that now spans every generation
And the causes aren't singular: nutritional gaps (biotin B7, B12), oxidative stress from free radicals, and lifestyle load — UV exposure and chemical stress. A rinse-off cleanser can't answer all of that. This is the seat for a leave-on format that stays and works on the scalp: the ampoule.
Hair Loss Care Now Speaks in "Functional" Language
As our barrier care report's CLAIM CHECK noted, cosmetics cannot say "prevents or treats hair loss." In Korea, the permitted language is "helps alleviate hair loss symptoms" — the functional cosmetics category, with its own requirements and evidence. This ampoule was engineered on top of those requirements.
Functional approval completed — hair loss symptom alleviation
Formulated with 1% caffeine, an approved functional ingredient — efficacy expressed within the claim boundary
Triple Synergy — Three Ingredients, Three Different Mechanisms
① Caffeine — extending the anagen (growth) phase
Caffeine blocks PDE, the enzyme that breaks down cAMP, keeping follicular cAMP elevated — activating cell metabolism and proliferation and extending the hair growth phase (Martino-Andrade et al., Int J Dermatol, 2009).
② Biotin — building the hair's structure
Promotes synthesis of keratin, hair's main protein, and activates fatty acid and amino acid metabolism — supporting strand strength and thickness (Zhao et al., J Cosmet Dermatol, 2017).
③ Brewer's yeast extract — changing the scalp environment
A nutritional yeast 85% similar to hair protein, delivering protein, B vitamins, 16 amino acids, and minerals to support scalp circulation and nutrition — with beta-glucan soothing stressed skin. Raw-material tests confirmed increased keratinocyte ATP (cellular energy) and reduced inflammatory factors (Shin et al., J Med Food, 2014, among others).
Anagen Extension × Structural Strength × Scalp Environment
Different mechanisms, layered — the TRIPLE SYNERGY EFFECT
In raw-material testing (animal study) of the three actives combined, hair count, hair diameter, and anagen rate all increased versus control. To borrow our report's language — hair care is a stacking market, and this formulation builds that logic directly into the bottle.
Black Foods and Herbal Heritage — Complexes with a Story
On top of the functional trio sit two story-rich complexes.
BLACK HR-5 Complex
Black cumin seed, pepper seed, black soybean, black sesame, black rice — five black foods carrying thymoquinone, piperine, and anthocyanins, adding nutrition, shine, and vitality to hair. All ingredients EWG green grade.
SR-5 Complex-PF
Polygonum multiflorum (Hasuo), calamus, houttuynia, saururus, kalopanax — five botanicals with hair care records in Korea's classical herbal texts, nourishing the scalp and lending hair its luster.
In global markets, black-food and heritage-botanical stories are powerful differentiators — but a story only becomes trust when functional approval and mechanism evidence stand behind it. That's why this product puts the functional trio in front and the story complexes behind it.
Whose Routine Does It Enter?
Troubled scalps shedding weak strands; hair stressed by frequent outdoor activity — spray onto the scalp and massage in with fingertips, and it slips into a daily routine. For consumers on treatment, it's the Rx-companion routine beside the drug; for those not yet at the treatment stage, it's the first scalp care after shampoo.
TREAT → CARE → MAINTAIN — this product lives in CARE
LUK'S INSIGHT
1. In treatment-adjacent categories, approval is the entry ticket
The closer a category sits to treatment, the more the claim boundary becomes the competitive edge. A product formulated with approved actives and cleared through functional review carries different weight saying the same words — and it's the starting point for market-by-market labeling strategy in export.
2. Layering different mechanisms is what formulation design means
Anagen extension (caffeine), structure (biotin), scalp environment (brewer's yeast) — synergy data comes from combining different mechanisms, not stacking more of the same. The stacking-market logic works inside the formula, not just in consumer behavior.
3. Heritage ingredients export with evidence, not nostalgia
Black foods and classical botanicals are the kind of distinctly Korean differentiation global buyers look for. But a story alone won't survive reviews. Designing the literature base, raw-material testing, and approval framework together is what turns heritage ingredients into exportable products.
